Revenue growth, delivered early in the holding period.

Portfolio Value Creation builds the revenue system that delivers the value creation plan, from the entry baseline to exit.

AscendBase works with portfolio companies once the acquisition is complete. Our specialism is sales, at every stage: winning new clients, converting them, and retaining and growing the clients the company already has.

10–12%

annual EBITDA growth now required to deliver a 2.5x return over five years, against 5% in the 2010s.1

75%

of private equity value creation came from revenue growth in 2025, up from 44% in 2019.2

49%vs33%

of high-performing versus low-performing PE firms activate at least one commercial initiative in more than 75% of portfolio companies within six months of close.3

The value creation plan is won or lost in the first months of ownership.

With borrowing costlier and multiple expansion no longer a reliable source of return, the value creation plan rests on revenue: how fast it grows, how predictably, and how well that growth is documented for the next buyer. Portfolio Value Creation starts with a Revenue Stream Analysis at entry, which sets the baseline of every revenue stage and quantifies the levers in the plan. The revenue system is then built inside the company, with forecasting and reporting the board can rely on, and run with the management team until the targets of the plan are met and the evidence is ready for exit.

Workstreams

  1. 01

    Revenue Stream Analysis: Entry Baseline

The revenue system measured at the start of ownership, stage by stage, so the strategy and the value creation plan start from facts rather than from the deal model.

  2. 02

    Value Creation Plan

The revenue levers quantified and sequenced against the investment thesis: which lever, what impact, by when and with which owner.

  3. 03

Revenue Planning, Forecasting & Board Reporting

A revenue plan linked to capacity, a forecast built on historical conversion, and a monthly board pack with one definition for every revenue metric.

  4. 04

    Revenue Operating Model

Ownership, cadence and routines for the revenue team, with stage definitions and service levels that keep the system running after the engagement.

  5. 05

    Buy-and-Build Integration

When the fund adds companies to the platform, their revenue engines are integrated into one, using the method of Revenue Synergy Activation.

  6. 06

    Exit Readiness

The quality of revenue documented for the next buyer: recurrence, retention, pipeline coverage and forecast accuracy, with the data to support each figure.

How it runs

Delivered in the room, with the team that will run it.

The work happens inside the company: in pipeline meetings, on the shop floor, beside the people who sell, deliver and manage accounts. Every engagement is led in person by the consultant who designs it.

  1. 01
Diagnose on site. The Revenue Stream Analysis combines system data with interviews and direct observation of how the team actually works, before anything is prescribed.
  2. 02
Build with the team. Processes, models and routines are designed in working sessions with the people who will use them, and tested in live deals rather than on paper.
  3. 03
Run it alongside, then hand over. The new routines are run together with the managers until the team operates them unaided; the capability stays in the company after the engagement ends.
